Songs on Sunday #006: Hella - Headless
So this is the first song off “Tripper” the new album from Hella. Their last LP, “There’s no 666 in Outer Space” saw the band increase its number to 5 and every song on the album featured vocals, unlike earlier Hella albums. Tripper is the band moving back to an instrumental duo, and it does sound like their earlier albums but with some really fresh sounds on a few of the songs. This one, “Headless”, doesn’t give the listener much chance to settle in, especially if you haven’t heard Hella before. But there’s reward in sticking with Hella songs, especially from this new album, the stripped down sound works really well and now they’ve experimented with side projects and adding new musicians, their return to a duo must feel fresh for them and I think it shows, this is a great album with this tune and “Psycho Bro” being my favourites.
