Songs on Sunday #005: Wild Flag - Romance
I was going to stop doing this as I got a bit bored of Tumblr and ignored it for a while (Call me a traditionalist who likes the days of blog posts that took more effort than seeing a vaguely funny/interesting image and clicking reblog). But then during this week I decided I still wanted to do it, so I’m doing two songs today to make up for it! The first is Wild Flag’s second single which came out a couple of months ago. When I first heard the name Wild Flag I thought it was a tribute act to the so-trendy-right-now Californian hardcore band and didn’t pay much attention. Then I heard who was in it, realised I was mistaken and checked them out. Listening to the album you can tell this isn’t just some side project to take up time in between real projects, this is the real fucking deal. And Romance is an absolute stomper. You can obviously hear bits of each member’s former band in there, but together they’re creating a genuinely innovative and unique sound. I also love how Carrie Brownstein is the boss in this video, anyone that can pull off a kick while playing guitar parts deserves to be the boss of all bosses. I’m going to see them in December and it’s going to be excellent.
